Global Product Approvals: Korea's New KN32 & KN35 Testing Requirements for Information Technology Equipment (ITE)

Starting January 1, 2016, the EMC test specification for ITE equipment sold in Korea changed. 

Which Requirements Have Changed

Previously Korea called out KN22 for emissions and KN24 for immunity. The new requirements are now KN32 for emissions and KN35 for immunity; KN22 and KN24 will no longer be accepted for approval for the Korea KC mark. While KN32 is very similar to the EU emissions requirement EN55032, KN35 does not have an equivalent EU standard.

What it Means for Your ITE Certification

Information Technology Equipment certified prior to Jan 1, 2016 will not need to be re-certified under the new Korea KN32 and KN35 standards. All equipment that is certified after that date will be required to comply with the new standards. While EMC testing to the new requirements is similar to testing under the previous standard, there are some key differences as compared to KN24.

Know Before You Test

• KN35 calls for a test plan
• KN35 has radiated immunity spot checks at frequencies at 1.8, 2.6, 3.5 and 5 GHz
• KN35 calls out some specific functional requirements for certain kinds of products.
